Trevor Brothers

Position Title
Assistant Professor of Psychology, North Carolina A&T State University

Bio

Trevor Brothers is Assistant Professor of Psychology at North Carolina A&T State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from UC Davis in 2017, where he was mentored by Professors Matt Traxler and Tamara Swaab.

During his time in the Swaab Lab, Dr. Brothers played a central role in shaping the lab’s research on language prediction. He developed a series of innovative experimental paradigms to disentangle predictive processing from integrative processes during sentence comprehension. His work provided compelling evidence for rational prediction, showing that comprehenders adjust their predictive strategies based on contextual factors—such as the overall proportion of high-cloze sentences or the reliability of the speaker—demonstrating that prediction is both flexible and adaptive.
