Summer 2025 Graduation News

Dr. Katie Sendek and Elaina Jahanfard both participated in the UC Davis 2025 Commencement Ceremony. Katie has accepted a postdoctoral position with Dr. Vince DeLuca at the Arctic University of Norway, where she will investigate sources of individual variability in bilingual language processing.

April 2025: Bay Area Linguistics Meeting at CMB

The Bay Area Language Processing Interest Group (BAyLI) was hosted at the CMB at UC Davis, and organized by Dr. Nora Beier and Noemi Diaz. Several Speakers gave short presentations on topics related to speech processing and Large Language Models. The Key Note lecture was given by Dr. Tamara Swaab.

Advancing Equitable AI: UC Davis Part of Multicampus Linguistic Diversity Project

A team of linguists from six University of California campuses—including UC Davis—has been awarded a Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives (MRPI) grant from the UC Office of the President. The project, Leveraging California's Linguistic Diversity to Improve Large Language Models, will explore how AI tools like ChatGPT respond to the wide range of language varieties spoken across the state—and how these technologies can be improved to better serve California’s richly diverse population.

August 2023: Congratulations to our lab members!

We congratulate Nora Beier, Agnes Gao, Elaina Jahanfard, Katie Sendek, Tim Trammel and Zoe Yang who have all had their abstracts accepted and will present their research on pre-activation and prediction during language processing in mono- and bilingual language users at the Society for the Neurobiology of Language (SNL) in Marseille. And an extra shout out for Nora Beier, who has also received a travel award from the SNL to attend the meeting.
